The unit provides consultation, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases to all of the hospital departments, oversees the use of advanced broad spectrum antibiotics, and proper infection control techniques at the hospital. The unit staff, including medical specialists, an epidemiological nurse, clinical pharmacist and microbiology laboratory, works to prevent healthcare-associated infections, teaches and trains the staff at the hospital about proper infection control techniques.
The Infectious Diseases Unit focus on, among other things, implementing methods for preventing the transfer of infectious pathogens from person to person, collecting information, monitoring and following up on the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics at the hospital, training the medical, paramedical and nursing staff on proper techniques to control infections and infectious diseases, rules for patient isolation to prevent the spread of bacteria and smart use of antibiotics, investigating outbreaks and taking systematic action to minimize the number of healthcare-acquired infections at the hospital. |
