Yaffa and Arcady Eliev, owners of a cellular phone shop in Hadera, have two young daughters. Their oldest is two-and-a-half and the other is just nine months old. About two months after giving birth to their youngest, Yaffa became pregnant. At the same time, she experienced pain in her kidneys and was referred for an ultrasound. As part of the scan, she discovered that there was evidently more than one gestational sac. When she went in for a gynecological exam, she was informed that, indeed, she had a spontaneous pregnancy and was carrying triplets. Yaffa and Arcady, who were very surprised, never imaged that they would be pregnant again so quickly after having their second daughter, only this time with triplets.

In Week 25, Yaffa experienced dizziness and vomiting and went to the Obstetrics ER at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, where they decided to admit her to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Department. “For two months, the department was my home. It’s not easy to be hospitalized for such a long time when there are two little girls at home who need me,” said Yaffa. “I was surrounded by a dedicated and wonderful team, who encouraged and supported me the entire time. All the other women hospitalized in the department also became my good friends, and we found ourselves spending entire nights together in the department. I was committed to drawing out the pregnancy as long as possible, and I told myself that this was a temporary situation and was for a good cause.”

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Department Director, Prof. Rinat Gabbay Benziv, said, “Yaffa came to us in an early week of pregnancy with cervical opening, preeclampsia, diabetes and more. We supported her, believed in her and did our best to make things as easy as possible for her during her hospital stay. In the end, she continued until Week 34, the day on which she was scheduled for a C-section, which is an unusual achievement, especially with triplets.”

The delivery went well and the three babies, two healthy boys and a girl, were admitted to the NICU in good condition for continued care and monitoring. They are expected to be discharged in the coming weeks.

After the delivery, the Elievs said, “Throughout the entire pregnancy, we believed that it was an incredible gift from God. Always listen to your internal voice and go with what you believe inside. We’re looking forward to going home with the babies and to begin getting used to the new reality: two plus five young children.”
