It's all about the people - now it's official

Last week, the Ministry of Health presented its rankings regarding the National Quality Indicators Program for Israeli hospitals, and Hillel Yaffe Medical Center was among the seven hospitals that met, and even exceeded, all of the targets.

The report that was issued included four indicators:

  • Performance of cardiac catheterization within 90 minutes of arrival at the hospital - national target was 70%.
  • Recommendation to take aspirin upon discharge after myocardial infarction - national target was 95%.
  • Surgery within 48 hours for hip fractures - national target was 80%.
  • Antibiotic prophylaxis prior to elective colorectal surgery (colectomy), one hour prior to incision) - national target was 85%.

For the last indicator, not only did Hillel Yaffe Medical Center meet the target, but also excelled with a score of 91%. This achievement was praised in the report and when the findings were presented at a national conference held by the Ministry of Health last week. With respect to the first two indicators, Hillel Yaffe scored 73% and 97%, respectively (in other words, exceeding the defined target), and on the hip fracture indicator scored 80%.

Prof. Meir Oren, HYMC Director General, said that he was delighted to see that the hard work of the professional staff day in and day out had clearly paid off - not only in compliance with the quality indicators, but also in their demanding everyday tasks. "I wish us all continued productive work and compliance with the additional and other indicators in the years to come," he said.

The National Quality Indicators Program for Israeli hospitals went into effect in January 2013 and to date includes 14 quality indicators. Each year approximately five new indicators are added to the survey. The program is designed to create transparency in the Israeli healthcare system through the medical care given to the public.
