Celebrating Shavuot

Just before Shavuot, the holiday of the giving of the Torah, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center held a ceremony to bring a new Torah scroll into its synagogue, donated by Mr. Yosef Chaim Baruch

Hillel Yaffe Medical Center held a ceremony to celebrate the new Torah scroll donated to the hospital synagogue. The ceremony began with a festive, lively procession, in which hospital employees and management, local rabbis, patients, and the donor, Mr. Yosef Chaim Baruch. The procession then entered the synagogue, with everyone singing and dancing, and ended in the adjacent hall where Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi David Lau, Medical Center Director General Dr. Mickey Dudkiewicz, and hospital chaplain Rabbi Dovev Bindiger addressed the audience. The ceremony was also attended by rabbi of Hadera, Rabbi Shimon Biton, his son Rabbi Yisrael Biton, and other distinguished rabbis from Hadera. Other honored guests included Rabbi Eliyahu Illouz of Or Akiva; Rabbi Mordechai Avramovsky of Zichron Yaakov; Rabbi Eliyahu Stolovich of Gush Vitkin; Rabbi Michael Stern of Kfar Pines and Menashe Regional Council; and principal of the Hadera Yeshiva High School, Rabbi Elyashiv Hacohen. Hillel Yaffe Medical Center employees, patients, visitors, and students from the yeshiva near the hospital attended as well and were all very moved by the ceremony.

Rabbi David Lau, Chief Rabbi of Israel said, "I congratulate Hillel Yaffe Medical Center’s administration and employees on this momentous occasion. I would like to thank the donor who was inspired by a difficult personal experience, in which he was wounded in a terrorist attack that left its mark on him and honored us by choosing to give a valuable gift, a Torah scroll, to this place that gives life."

 

Dr. Mickey Dudkiewicz, Director General of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, said, "It is very symbolic that just before the holiday of Shavuot, the holiday of the giving of the Torah, we are gathered here for an especially joyous occasion – bringing a new Torah scroll into the our medical center’s synagogue.
